The focus of our Youth-Centered and Youth Advocates programs are efforts to strengthen communities, so that young people can live in places that provide strong social support and access to resources and opportunities.

Fee-for-service projects are selected with a focus on creating an ecosystem through art that strengthens community connections through healing-centered arts-based workshops, art curation, graphic design, videography and photography.

#KNOWJUSTICE

An annual May event that elevates stories of strength and resilience from individuals whose stories are often not told. The month-long exhibit celebrates social justice in art and aims to elevate the voices of young people who have survived horrific injustices and childhood trauma. The Holiday Hustle kicks off the holiday season by providing an opportunity for young people to share their work with the community. These annual events allow young people to sell their art work and publicly perform, so they can apply their financial literacy skills, make money and invites the community to be active change makers.

#KNOWJUSTICE: Legacies

The stories we tell are what we remember. They shape our understanding of our communities and our world. They become our history.

#KNOWJUSTICE: Legacies aka The Legacy Collection is about archiving and elevating the many voices that make up our state. These are stories that are shaped by our community and belong to our community. By knowing our history, we can learn from our past, celebrate our heritage, and work together for a brighter future for all Iowans.

We would love for you to share your legacy with us. We believe that ordinary stories are worth sharing and uplifting. For more information, visit: kjlegacy.org

This will be the final #KNOWJUSTICE exhibit

The Legacy Collection

The Legacy Collection gathers, preserves and shares a collective history of Iowa through Iowans’ stories. These stories will be captured in a variety of forms, such as recorded interviews, essays, songs, animations, art, or journals. These stories are shaped by our community and belong to our community. By knowing our history, we can learn from our past, celebrate our heritage, and work together for a brighter future for all Iowans.
