Our work is centered on youth and includes our Pathways, Heroes, and ArtForce Everywhere programs. Pathways and Heroes offer after-school art workshops and support for youth who are underserved and marginalized. Using healing-centered engagement practices, artist mentors and staff practice art with youth in a way that fosters culture, agency, relationships, meaning and aspirations–all practices that lead to healing and flourishing. Workshops are based on young people’s individual interests and encourage them to find their creative voice. Staff also work with youth to make sure their needs are met and they are on track to graduate from high school.

The Pathways program is a supportive arts-based community for youth (ages 12-19) who have involvement in the juvenile court system, whether they are labeled delinquent, CINA (Child In Need of Assistance) or in custody of the Iowa Department of Human Services (homeless, in shelter or foster care systems). Artist mentors help define a safe space and encourage youth artists to find their creative voice. These weekly workshops are based on young people’s individual interests.

ArtForce Everywhere provides robust, age-appropriate art kits and workshops to meet young people where they are in Iowa.

The Heroes program is a supportive arts community for youth (ages 12-19) identified as immigrants, refugees and first-generation Americans (our Heroes). Artist mentors create opportunities for arts experimentation and learning in a multilingual atmosphere. These weekly workshops are based on young people’s individual interests.
